Howler is a custom-built bar in the Brunswick carpark, known for its great beers. It was designed by Chris Stanley and converted from a woolshed. It is manned by cocktail guru Chris Lemelu and offer beers such as Japan’s immaculately weird Hitachino Nest and delicious oddities from America’s beardy north. Howler is not only an extraordinary bar and garden lounge, but also one of greatest burger joints in Melbourne. A variety of burgers show a variety of flavors, representing different cuisines from around the world. Spotted Mallard, one of the top beer bars in Brunswick, is known for its constantly updated draft beer selection with local and international beers. Beer is champion here, with 100 percent craft on tap and plenty of Melbourne juice. Owner James has been a bartender for 15 years and the list here has more than 40 different can options including IPAs, sours, pilsners and stouts. Like his father, Knox likes the American blues and folk songs of the 1960s, while wood-paneled floors, bars and high ceilings create good acoustics in the bar.
